The Red Living: Where Design Meets Drama

Apr 26, 2025

Initially acquired as an investment, the unit took on a new purpose when the entrepreneur owner decided to transform it into a private lounge for personal enjoyment. Designed not for daily accommodation but as an exclusive retreat, the space offers a warm, quiet, and luxurious atmosphere—ideal for unwinding beyond the confines of home and for spending quality time with close friends. His vision called for distinct experiences: a fully equipped home theatre, a lively karaoke area, a hidden speakeasy-style bar, and a bespoke guest bedroom—all tailored to create an intimate yet indulgent escape.

A Timeless Retreat: Blending Tradition with Personal Expression

Dim lighting, rich red velvet, and reflective gold ceiling envelop the private lounge, transporting guests to a bygone era of 1950s, offering a moody atmosphere that immerse guests in a refined and captivating experience. Designed as a hidden yet unforgettable retreat, The Red Living seamlessly blends the allure of the past with the elegance of the present.

Patterns in textiles offer a subtle yet powerful way to break up plain surfaces and introduce visual intrigue. This thoughtful approach defines every corner of the home, where classic elements meet contemporary comfort in a deeply personal way.

The pantry is one such space, meticulously designed to deliver a unique speakeasy experience. With its subtle entrance and layered textures, it captures the allure of nostalgia while reflecting the elegance of modern hospitality. It’s a space that invites conversation, curiosity, and quiet luxury.

Equally remarkable is the powder room—a testament to the homeowner’s distinctive taste. With a strong preference for red, the design team embraced this bold palette and incorporated it with finesse. Rich crimson tones flow seamlessly alongside natural motifs, resulting in a striking yet balanced composition that feels both grounded and expressive.

In the guestroom, the design story continues. Deep burgundy walls set a passionate tone, while dark curtains and coordinated bedding create a dramatic contrast, enhancing the room’s cozy and intimate ambiance. It’s a space that welcomes guests not just with comfort, but with emotion and elegance.
